"Density" in Istanbul

density I've just come back from Istanbul, working on new scores for >>Aydin Teker for performances in July (7th, 8th). Everything was put together using the two PowerBooks and the two OasysPCI cards, with audio sourced and processed from Turkish cable TV.

We wanted to try and go quadraphonic for one of the pieces, but I have no idea what to expect equipment-wise of the average Istanbul performance space, and there's no lingua franca for multi-channel soundtracks (where multi > 2), so in the end I pulled the score apart into two stereo parts - one "main" and one "sub" - such that they can be cued up and started by ear. All we need is two CD players and enough bits of PA hardware.

A friend of mine suggested an interesting take on running multi-channel soundtracks using consumer hardware (CD players in particular): get a number of identical players with infra-red remotes, and then start them all from the remote at the same time. (This is assuming that the players have all loaded the TOC's from the discs, and are cued up.) I wonder what the average skew is on a setup like this?
